A New Boxing System for Speed and Power Development

It is not just about getting stronger as it’s more than that. Its about developing speed and power for boxing that actually transfers to the ring.
We must focus on how force is produced, not just how much force you can generate.
Most traditional systems build strength first and then try to convert it into performance. But in boxing, that approach often falls short. You don’t just need strength, you need to apply force fast, under real fight conditions.
This is where my system is different.
The Problem With Traditional Block Periodization
Standard block periodization follows a clear structure:
Accumulation (build volume and base strength)
Transmutation (convert strength into sport-specific performance)
Realization (peak and express maximal output)
This structure works well for general athletes, but for boxers, it has a limitation.
Speed and power. Rate of force development (RFD) are not always prioritised enough. That's why we utilize bands utilizing the conjugate method dynamic effort.
In many cases, boxers get stronger, but that strength doesn’t fully transfer into punching speed, movement, or explosive actions in the ring.

My Approach | Speed Before Strength
My system still uses block periodization, but with a key difference.
Instead of treating strength as the starting point, I prioritise speed and neural activation first, then transfer that into maximal force production.
This means training the nervous system to fire fast before asking the body to produce maximum force.
How the System Works
Accumulation Phase | Building the Base
The goal here is to develop:
Structural strength
Muscle balance
Work capacity
This phase uses repetition effort methods, focusing on controlled volume and building a solid foundation for future performance.
Transmutation Phase | Converting to Speed and Power
This is where training becomes more explosive.
The focus shifts to:
Dynamic effort work
Speed-based lifting
Improving movement efficiency
This phase starts developing the ability to produce force quickly, preparing the body for high-performance output.
Realization Phase | Speed & Maximum Strength
This is where my system separates itself.
Instead of only focusing on heavy lifting, I use:
Followed by max effort lifting (1–3 reps)
The purpose is simple:
Train speed first
Then express strength as fast as possible.
By using bands before lifting heavy, the nervous system is primed for explosive output. This improves motor unit recruitment and increases the rate at which force is produced.

Why This Works for Boxers
Boxing is not a slow strength sport.
It’s about:
Explosive punches
Fast reactions
High-speed force production
By prioritising speed before maximal strength, this system ensures that:
Strength transfers into punching power
Movement stays fast and efficient
Conditioning supports performance, not fatigue

The Key Difference
Traditional systems build strength and hope it transfers.
This system builds speed and power first, then reinforces it with strength.
That shift changes everything.
Boxing strength and conditioning should always come back to one question:
Does it improve performance in the ring?
If the answer is no, it doesn’t belong in your training.
This system is built around that principle, developing speed and power first and then applying strength in a way that actually transfers.
