The Foundation of Boxing Power

You can’t be powerful until you have built your base first from your ankles till your shoulders. We don’t want to exclude the neck as well as this helps with impact of a harder punch and also makes you more punch resistant. It also keeps your head stable, letting force flow cleanly through your core into the punch.

Before you throw with speed or explosiveness, you need maximal strength. Strength is your engine behind every punch which helps you produce more force with each movement. The stronger you are, the more potential you have to develop knockout power.

Why Strength Comes First

Think of strength as your base. Without it, you can’t fully tap into your fast twitch muscle fibers which make you explosive. By building your max strength through compound lifts like squats, deadlifts and the bench press you increase your body’s ability to apply force rapidly when it’s time to punch.

How to Train for Maximum Strength

  • Focus on low reps (3–5) with heavy loads (80–90% of your 1RM).

  • Use full rest periods (3-5minutes) for recovery and performance.

  • Prioritize proper technique and controlled movement.

Strength Then Power

Once your foundation is set, move into explosive work which are plyometrics, contrast training once you’ve done a a few mesocycles and speed lifts utilizing dynamic effort in the conjugate method.

That’s how you turn strength into fight knockout power.

Strength is your foundation. Power is your drive to out strength your opponent to score points or get the knockout. Train both to dominate in the ring. 💪🏾
